Missing....

Postby phoenixineohp » 17 Jul 2010, 19:02

So one stupid innocent mistake later and I'm having a massive problem. I forgot to slide the glass door shut after spraying one of my gargs. Next morning I realized my mistake... and he's gone. It's my striped male, Sticki. He's been missing 3 nights now. I think he's contained in the downstairs living room, where I was sleeping. The door stays closed. But it is a large room and despite a lot of searching, he's still eluding us. There are a TON of places he could be hiding. And he hasn't come out for food. I stayed up late last night to try and hear something, but no luck. I really miss the little guy, and I love him, let alone the financial ouch if I really lose him.

Any suggestions? Ever had it happen and recover it alive?

I FOUND HIM!

Tail and all! He's back in his cage, adventure over. Thank god.

I had searched and then sealed off the wall that is all a book case and removed many boxes and hiding spots. Then, giving up for the night and planning tomorrows hunt, I debated about a short trip to grab a glass of water, or to just go to bed. Deciding on the water, I got up and went to the door. Decided, randomly, to hit a light to do a visual scan of his cage and room. (I'd left his cage open with food in it to try and lure him back). Seeing nothing I turned around and went to open the door and step out... when I look down and nearly hit him! Half on the door, half on the carpet, in the corner of the frame he's sitting there, caught in the light.
*gingerly snatch*
Back into his cage. SECURE THE DOOR. Stare at him.
I can't believe it.
So close to his cage and to my female too. And the couch. And Piano. (Things I really don't want to imagine him hiding in.)
I can't believe it.
Phew.
Tomorrow I design velcro door locks. I've never made that mistake before, and I pray I never do again!

I'm happy you found him! I think this happens to all of us at one point or another, with me it was one of my hatchlings that escaped for 2-3 days after I had carelessly left the cage open after a misting/feeding. I'd found him up on my coat rack; the one thing that sort of felt like a tree to him. I guess we learn from our mistakes #-o

Great to hear that he is found and safely back in his cage waiting his time until he gets to meet his female friend.

Good to hear you found him!

I've been there and done that myself! #-o

Just a word of advice, now that he has had a taste of freedom he just may want more. I temporarily lost a crestie. He now sits on his doors waiting for them to open and makes a run for it EVERY time that door opens!

Too funny ... kind of like a dog or cat just waiting to get outside!

Good to hear that you found your garg Phoenix. I've had a male Gold Dust on the loose for about a month or so now. I just saw him last week but he's WAAAAAY to fast for me to catch and there are far too many places for him to hide. I'm going to have to do a HUGE CLEANUP soon and hopefully catch him. Although I'm sure that there are enough loose crickets and stray little spiders to keep him going for quite a while!
